Happy September!

Hope you were able to enjoy summer in between the (many) rain drops! Let’s hope some of this wetness translates to copious snow! In the meantime, time to get ready to ski…either by joining us with Masters or planning on joining our other ski programs.

Masters Training Program Starts Monday, November 18th.

Stowe Nordic will once again be offering its highly popular Masters Training program.

Stowe Nordic Master’s Training Program, 2023-2024

  • Dates: September 18, 2023 through March 11, 2024
  • Times: Weekly, Mondays, 4:00-5:30 pm (3:30-5:00 after time change)
  • Where: Trapp Family Lodge Outdoor Center
  • Program Costs: The Stowe Nordic program fee is $190. Participants must also be members of Stowe Nordic ($30 individual; $50 family) for the current year.
  • Trail Use Fees: All participants must also purchase a trail pass from Trapp’s. Last winter’s pass prices are listed here and most likely there will be a small increase for this year. You should purchase this pass at the early season discounted rate (10% off before October 31). This will cover all Stowe Nordic Monday training sessions during the fall, and full winter ski season use. You will purchase this in person at the Trapps Touring Center so photo and pass can be made.

We thank the Trapp Family Lodge Outdoor Center for hosting the 2023-2024 Stowe Nordic Master’s Training Program and for offering discounted rates on trail passes to program participants!

Program Description:

The Stowe Nordic Master’s Training Program is for men and women, ages 30 plus. This program is for the intermediate to advanced skier with the goal of improving fitness and ski technique, both classic and skating. The program will be Mondays 4:00-5:30 pm (until the time change, then 3:30) at the Trapp Family Lodge Outdoor Center. We will begin on Monday, September 18, meeting weekly with dryland training, and as soon as there is enough snow, ski training. You will have rotating coaches each with their own focus: Trina Hosmer (interval training), Dave Hosmer (core strength, technique, video), and assistants Carol VanDyke, Leigh Mallory, and Robyn Anderson. Weekly emails will be sent out before each session informing you of the type of training planned (e.g., classic or skate technique).

Questions about the program may be addressed to Trina Hosmer (hosmer@oit.umass.edu).

Our Youth Program Seeks Help!

Stowe Nordic’s youth program has grown considerably in the last few years, growing to two days a week as well as a larger number of participants.  It is so great to see kids out on skis, having fun, making new friends and learning a lifelong sport. But the program would benefit from more adult support. You don’t need to be an expert skier to be a coach – more important is a willingness to chase kids around and lead fun games!  NENSA (New England Nordic Ski Association) has many resources we can leverage, including tips and game suggestions.  If you want to join us as a paid coach, we will send you to a NENSA Youth Coach training program (3 hours in late September). Even if you don’t want to coach, our coaches could still use your help to run the program.  If you’d like to help in any way, please contact Neal Graves at neal.t.graves@gmail.com

Fall Training Opportunity – Trapp Lodge Mountain Marathon

The course features a significant amount of winding single track,  plus rugged dirt and gravel road/trail sections, and a scrambling climb to the summit of Round Top Mountain with breathtaking views of Mount Mansfield. In total, runners will gain and lose 1,900 ft of elevation per loop. That means a solid 3,800  ft for the full marathon! There is a 4pm cut-off for all runners. Here’s the link for more info.
