Wow! (Again!) It's been a December to Remember... Happy Holidays and think (more) snow! Program Update The von Trapp Family Resort Outdoor Center has been a busy place on most weekday afternoons with Stowe Nordic Masters, Basics, Women's and Youth Programs in full swing (plus the Stowe school programs!). The great conditions have made it easier to learn those new skills without having to worry about conditions (though many afternoons did get pretty chilly!) Grooming The Rec Path has been groomed. Elections! Stowe Nordic members: This year, our annual meeting was a fun celebration of our 30th anniversary, but it didn't provide a good opportunity to do our board elections. Per our bylaws, Stowe Nordic members need to elect officers and board members every fall. Hence, you will be receiving an online ballot. We currently have eight Board members (out of a maximum of ten allowed in our bylaws). Youth Program Registration now Open! Our Youth Program is geared towards beginning and developing Nordic skiers starting in Kindergarten through 8th grade. It meets at von Trapp Outdoor Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-4:40, weather permitting. Youth skiers will sign up for EITHER Tuesday OR Thursday. We will cap group sizes to 40 participants on each day. Practice usually begins with skill-building games and drills and ends with some free ski time in ability-specific groups. Nordic Skiing Basics Registration now Open! We introduced the Nordic Skiing Basics program last year and it was a great success for both new beginner skiers as well as skiers looking for instruction on classic cross-country technique fundamentals. Since some participants are returning this year, the program will still offer instruction for beginners and will also have a group focusing on technique as well adding an element of fitness. The seven-session program will start November 11 off-snow where we will discuss the different types of cross-country skis and ski gear, and talk about which will be appropriate for the training sessions.
