Stowe Nordic Middle School students had an awesome day of racing at Craftsbury which will likely be the last scholastic race during this temperate winter. All of the kids have shown improvement, experienced competition, faced adversity and have continued to compete with a smile. I couldn’t be more proud of their effort and enthusiasm in competing in one of the toughest sports which requires a high skill level, strength and endurance.
Race recap:
Kaiden McNeil finished 4th despite a tangle-up with a hard crash on the first lap; John Lackey V1 hopped his way up the hills to finish 9th; Finn Murphy skied technically very sound and finished 13th; Charlie Alekson skied strong in only his 2nd race of the season and finished 16th; Youngster Brodey McNeil finished 20th and happily recovered at the snack shack with a Blue Gatorade.
The Stowe Middle School boys team finished 2nd in overall team rankings for the day just behind powerhouse U32.
The girls had a very strong showing with Wren Murphy landing a 6th place with a very competitive field while new racers Olivia Carey and Stella Frame competing in their first race of the season and respectively finished 16th and 17th and managed to smile for the camera on their 2nd lap. Wren Murphy earned the “racer of the day award”, as she has come a long way in balancing her pre-race jitters and is competing with a great attitude.
