Program Description:

Stowe Nordic’s Women’s Program is a 10-week program held on Wednesday afternoons at the Trapp Outdoor Center. The program is led by Craftsbury master skier Gina Campoli and assistant coach Carol Van Dyke, along with guest coaches. The Stowe Nordic Women’s Program is an opportunity for runners, bikers, hikers, alpine skiers and others to learn how to cross-country ski, and for intermediate skiers to improve technique and fitness, all in a supportive and easy going setting. The primary focus is on classic ski technique for beginners through advanced intermediate skiers. However, the program is not for first time ever cross-country skiers. Those who have never skied before are encouraged to take a lesson or two before participating in the program. Participants should feel comfortable on their skis and be able to go up and down easy hills. There will be sessions on the fundamentals of kicking and gliding, with the goals of feeling comfortable both uphill and downhill, increasing speed and efficiency, and having fun on skis. Some 5-10 km tours will be included. This year, the first session on Dec. 18 will be a meet-and-greet with some dryland training and a ski equipment check. The program will be capped at 30 participants.

Questions about the program may be addressed to Gina Campoli at ginacampolivt@gmail.com

Our Coaches:

Gina Campoli

Gina’s first winter on nordic skis was in 1976.  She switched from alpine to nordic half way through her four years on the Williams College ski team in the mid-seventies, moved to Craftsbury in 1978, raised three boys and pursued an environmental career in Vermont state government. Now retired, she still races and trains in Craftsbury with her husband John Brodhead, former Director of Skiing at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center.

Carol Hillman Van Dyke

Carol grew up in Stowe downhill skiing with MMSC. Her first nordic foray was on cross country wooden skis in 1973 at Trapps. Since then the sport has been a constant in her life. She worked at the Mansfield Touring Center in 1980 and has returned to teach skiing there since 2007. She has been Event Director for many Stowe Nordic events at the Trapp Family Lodge including the 2006 Bill Koch Festival, the 2007 NENSA Eastern High School Championships, many Eastern Cups and UVM Winter Carnivals, a Super Tour, and NCAA Championships. Carol had three kids that all went through the Stowe BKL program where Carol was a BKL Coach from 1996 to 2002. She was a former president of Stowe Nordic Club and the Stowe High School Nordic ski coach from 2001 to 2018. She is currently on the board of the New England Nordic Ski Association where she is recent Past-Board Chair and received the 2022 Chummy Broomhall award for service to nordic skiing. She is also a US Ski and Snowboard Level 2 certified coach, a Level 1 Technical Delegate and a masters competitor with diminishing speed. Carol loves to share with others her enthusiasm for skiing and being outdoors in the winter woods.
