Our Coaches:

Trina Hosmer

Trina has been cross-country skiing and racing for over 50 years. She was on the first international U.S. women’s team that went to the World Championships in 1970 in Vysocke Tatry, Czechoslovakia, the 1972 Olympic Team in Sapporo, Japan and 1974 World Championship team in Falun, Sweden. Since then, she has competed in several World Master’s Championships and won numerous age group medals, AND she is still passionate about cross-country skiing. Trina is also the founder of Stowe Nordic’s Women’s Ski Program and the New England Women’s XC Ski Day.

Carol Hillman Van Dyke

Carol grew up in Stowe downhill skiing with MMSC. Her first nordic foray was on cross country wooden skis in 1973 at the von Trapp Outdoor Center. Since then the sport has been a constant in her life. She worked at the Mansfield Touring Center in 1980 and has returned to teach skiing there since 2007. She has been Event Director for many Stowe Nordic events at the von Trapp Outdoor Center. Carol had three kids that all went through the Stowe BKL program where Carol was a BKL Coach from 1996 to 2002. She is a former president of Stowe Nordic Club and the Stowe High School Nordic ski coach from 2001 to 2018. She is also a US Ski and Snowboard Level 2 certified coach, a Level 2 Technical Delegate and a masters competitor with diminishing speed. Carol loves to share with others her enthusiasm for skiing and being outdoors in the winter woods.

Leigh Mallory

Leigh started and coached the first Colchester High School Nordic Ski Team in 1978.  He coached the team for 32 years. During that time he had several state championship teams and individual state medalists, one who went on to ski for the US Biathlon Team at the Olympics in Nagano, Japan.  Leigh coached numerous New England J2 and Eastern HS Championship teams.  He was very active in ski racing on the Masters Circuit up until 2021 and attended several World Masters Championships upon retiring from teaching.

Dave Hosmer

Dave has been skiing cross-country since high school when he also did ski jumping. He skied on the University of Vermont Ski Team for four years and by his senior year a regular top 10 finisher in the Eastern Collegiate Carnival circuit. Dave and wife Trina were active racers in New England for the Putney Ski Club for more than 30 years. After moving to Stowe in 2005, both promoted a weekly nordic ski training group which grew into the Stowe Nordic Masters Training Program. Now retired from the University of Massachusetts as a Professor of Statistics, Dave enjoys teaching a new set of students how to ski more efficiently.

Robyn Anderson

Robyn grew up skiing in the Stowe Bill Koch program (thank you to Carol Van Dyke & Stowe Nordic!) and went on to ski for Middlebury College and at two NCAAs. After college she worked at the von Trapp Outdoor Center teaching skiing and coaching a local running and xc-skiing program while continuing to race the regional ski marathons as well as a few world loppets over the years, including team favorite: back-to-back marathons at the Gatineau Loppet. Now she enjoys getting out in the backyard mountains on her 3-pins, early morning skis at the von Trapp Outdoor Center, and helping out with the Stowe Nordic Masters program!
