Happy Holidays, enjoy the snow and think (more) snow!

Winter Events at Trapps – Save The Dates!

From David Rye, Director of the Von Trapp Outdoor Center:

Trapps has all kinds of events coming up this winter for day or season passholders and we wanted to be sure Stowe Nordic members knew about the below so they could save the dates. The talk with the doctor and physical therapist on Sunday, January 4 may be especially relevant to Masters skiers and all of us could learn from these experts on how to keep skiing for years to come.

Sunday Funday, January 4

  • von Trapp Poker Ski: Full details will be shared in the Outdoor Center and in the daily conditions report the day of, but you need to pick up one card from five different sites on property and the best poker hand at the end of the day wins a pair of Darn Tough socks and a block of Cabot Alpine Cheddar. Please RSVP here if you plan to join so we know how many people to expect, but know that anybody is welcome to jump in the day of without RSVP’ing.
  • “Skiing Up (and Over) The Hill”: At 2PM in the Mozart Room in the Main Lodge, Sara Headley of Mint Health and Kat Dwyer from StowePhysical Therapy & Pilates will be hosting a talk about how we all can ski just as strong or stronger as many of us are past our supposed primes. Join us and learn from these two experts how you can keep skiing many more decades with practical advice, new trends, and more. There is no need to register.

Sunday Funday, January 25: S’Mores Ski
S’Mores at Russell Knoll from 11AM – 2PM. Fire pit on Russell Knoll with s’mores makings provided on site. No registration needed and no fee beyond your normal day or season pass. You just have to ski or snowshoe out there and toast the perfect golden marshmallow!

Saturday, February 7: von Trapp Olympic Party
Join the party to get into the Olympic spirit! A torchlight ski parade will start right at 5PM from the Outdoor Center. Participants must be on skis, have a headlamp, and have purchased a day pass or have a season pass. We will make our way to Picnic Knoll where a fire will be waiting and the (taped) Women’s Olympic 10K will be projected onto a screen in the trees.

Sunday Funday, March 8

  • von Trapp Race to the Cabin: Come enter this festive, low-key event; some may race, and others may tour. Just come out and ski at your own pace to the famous Trapp’s Slayton Pasture Cabin and enjoy a hot chocolate or hot cider!
  • Frigid Dynamics Vipera Demo Day: Trapps plan to host Frigid Dynamics for short demos their Vipera e-ski (yes, really). Don’t run me out of town if you think this is sacrilegious, but we had a good chat at the Snowbound Boston Expo and always happy to support a new company while trying something new on snow. Muscles not motors every other day, but come try it if you want. Check it out here.

Women’s Day Sunday January 25th at Holderness, NH

2026 marks the 25th anniversary of the New England Women’s XC Ski Day – a cherished tradition that brings together women of all levels for a day of inspiration, camaraderie, and winter adventure.Founded in 2002 by Olympian Trina Hosmer of Stowe, Vermont, this event was inspired by the energy of Alaska’s Ski for Women event. Trina’s vision was simple but powerful: create a space where women can connect, learn, and thrive on skis – all while supporting women-centered causes. Each year, we choose a local nonprofit organization that supports women, with event proceeds going directly to that cause.

At the heart of Women’s XC Ski Day are fun, welcoming learn-to-ski clinics led by all-women instructor teams. Whether you’re brand new to the sport or looking to refine your technique, the emphasis is on joy, community, and encouragement.

The limit for Women’s Day is 200. It does fill up, so if you are interested, sign up soon!
