Nice to see a January that has provided good snow and mostly reasonable temperatures. Stowe seems to be blessed with the best conditions around. Now that it’s a bit warmer, time to do some ski adventures!
Tour de Stowe – Feb 2 – Sign up now!
The Tour de Stowe is happening on Sunday, February 2nd and is the one big event that our club puts on for the year. It is not a race, but a fun challenge for all ages featuring cross country skiing through the beautiful trails at the Trapp Family Lodge and Stowe Mountain Resort. As this is a huge effort for our club to put on the event, as a member, please show your support by either participating in the tour or helping to volunteer.
The special Youth/BKL 5K ski loop features the McGovern family’s famous blueberry soup and a Memory Game.
Our home venue, the Trapp Family Lodge has been extremely supportive of the event. Several companies will be represented there including Fischer Demo Skis, Cold Hollow Cider Mill, Cabot Creamery, MountainRoad Outfitters/Maloja, Swix, and Ursa Major.
Participants and volunteers can join together at the post-event celebration at the Bierhall from 1-3PM with food and a raffle.
Register by Friday, 1/31 @: https://www.skireg.com/tour-de-stowe. Day of Registration is available for an extra $10 fee, cash or check only.
To signup to volunteer, email: Carol at cavandyke46@gmail.com
The Stowe Nordic Club is hosting the event as part of the NENSACommunity Tours and Events series. Proceeds go to the Stowe Nordic Foundation which provides financial support to youth nordic programs suchas Catamount Cubs, Stowe BKL, and Stowe High School and Harwood High School nordic ski teams.
Some words about our sponsors:
FISCHER DEMO SKIS
You don’t have to be part of the Tour de Ski to visit the Fischer tent. Jeanne Stopyro is coming to Trapps on February 2nd and bringing a fleet of Fischer skis for people to try. She will have a range from touring to performance skis. There will also be boots to demo but you can also bring your own with NNN soles. Jeanne hails from Lake Placid, NY and has been in the outdoor industry business for over 40 years. This is a great opportunity to find out which skis (and boots) to add to your quiver!
COLD HOLLOW CIDER MILL
Cold Hollow Cider Mill is generously donating their famous cider and donuts to be enjoyed at the cabin food stop. They will also be on hand to offer samples of their recently launched hard cider product. Thanks Dan!
MOUNTAIN ROAD OUTFITTER/MALOJA
Mountain Road Outfitters, the only US flagship store for Maloja will be therewith their functional and beautifully distinctive clothing line. Check out the Stowe High School team Nordic jackets! Owner Kate Ball-Young offers a 15% discount to Stowe Nordic members on retail items.
CABOT CHEESE
Yum! Cabot is providing their handy snack packs of delicious cheddar.
SWIX
Swix wax is a leading brand in wax, poles and sportswear. Drew Gelinas, National Guard Biathlon coach and Swix Nordic pro, donated items for the raffle.
URSA MAJOR
Ursa Major, another Stowe home company, is providing Face Wipes to refresh yourselves along the way or before the party! Morgan, Ursa Major guy, is one of those finesse skiers that might have flown by you on the trails at Trapps.
The hills truly are alive! Skiing, friends, delicious food, fun products, and a community celebration in the Bierhall are certainly a few of our favorite things!
