Program Description:
Stowe Nordic’s Women’s Program is a 10-week program held on Wednesday afternoons at the Trapp Outdoor Center. The program is led by Craftsbury master skier Gina Campoli and assistant coach Carol Van Dyke, along with guest coaches. The Stowe Nordic Women’s Program is an opportunity for runners, bikers, hikers, alpine skiers and others to learn how to cross-country ski, and for intermediate skiers to improve technique and fitness, all in a supportive and easy going setting. The primary focus is on classic ski technique for beginners through advanced intermediate skiers. However, the program is not for first time ever cross-country skiers. Those who have never skied before are encouraged to take a lesson or two before participating in the program. Participants should feel comfortable on their skis and be able to go up and down easy hills. There will be sessions on the fundamentals of kicking and gliding, with the goals of feeling comfortable both uphill and downhill, increasing speed and efficiency, and having fun on skis. Some 5-10 km tours will be included. The program will be capped at 30 participants.
Questions about the program may be addressed to Gina Campoli at ginacampolivt@gmail.com

Ed Miller Recognized as Stowe Land Trust’s 2023 Volunteer of the Year.
At the Stowe Land Trust Annual Meeting held on the Chase Farm this past Sunday, Stowe Land Trust recognized Ed Miller as Volunteer of the Year. Ed, whose workout includes carrying around his chainsaw readily responds to reports of downed trees on trails. One instance was a callout by SLT for help after a windstorm in the Crawford Forest. Immediately Ed went out to the end of Barnes Hill and cut up the obstacles. He is also a trail steward for a section of the Catamount Trail in Stowe and is out every fall helping to keep the Mansfield backcountry trails clear. Not to mention he is a member of Stowe Mountain Rescue. Though Stowe Nordic hasn’t given him an award, he is a supreme volunteer for our organization over the years as event timer, stadium setter-upper, snowmobile techie, backcountry ski enthusiast and longtime board member. Thanks Ed for all you do!

We thank the Trapp Family Lodge Outdoor Center for hosting the 2023-2024 Stowe Nordic Youth Winter Ski Program and for offering discounted rates on trail passes to program participants!
Program Description:
Our Youth Program is geared towards beginning and developing Nordic skiers starting in Kindergarten through 8th grade. It meets at Trapp Family Lodge Outdoor Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-4:40. Youth skiers will sign up for EITHER Tuesday OR Thursday. We will cap group sizes to 40 participants on each day.
Practice usually begins with skill-building games and drills and ends with some free ski time in ability-specific groups. Our primary goals are to introduce the sport of Nordic skiing to beginners, advance the skills and technique of developing skiers, and most importantly to grow the enjoyment and love of Nordic skiing as a lifetime sport.
In order to best manage small group efficiency this season, we are asking for consistent weekly parent volunteers to work with the same group of 6-8 skiers. We also ask that parents of the newest and youngest skiers (5 or under) attend practices.
Questions about the program may be addressed to Neal Graves at neal.t.graves@gmail.com
Financial Support:
Promoting the passion and pursuit of Nordic skiing as a lifetime winter sport is central to Stowe Nordic’s purpose. Lack of financial resources should not be a barrier to participation. Therefore, we are pleased to provide scholarships upon request to those who need support. Please inquire at info@stowenordic.org
Our Youth Program Seeks Help!
Stowe Nordic’s youth program has grown considerably in the last few years, growing to two days a week as well as a larger number of participants. It is so great to see kids out on skis, having fun, making new friends and learning a lifelong sport. But the program would benefit from more adult support. You don’t need to be an expert skier to be a coach – more important is a willingness to chase kids around and lead fun games! NENSA (New England Nordic Ski Association) has many resources we can leverage, including tips and game suggestions. If you are interested in being one of our “official” weekly coaches please contact Neal Graves (contact info below) about what it entails and compensation. Even if you don’t want to coach, our coaches could still use your help to run the program. If you’d like to help in any way, please contact Neal Graves at neal.t.graves@gmail.com
